Abstract
This talk examines the creation of a new art museum in Kazakhstan through the lens of digital transformation - as a fundamental condition of institutional design. The lecture is based on the practical experience of launching the Almaty Museum of Arts and focuses on how digital technologies are integrated into mission, architecture, operations, and audience engagement.
The session will address the key distinction between digitising existing museums and designing new institutions “digital by default.” It will cover IT and media infrastructure, the use of BIM in construction, communication and content strategies, visitor experience, and back-office systems. Particular attention will be given to how digital environments shape museum communication, organisational structure, and long-term sustainability.
The talk also reflects on inclusive practices, research and publishing programs, and future directions - from digitisation and digital twins to integrated institutional ecosystems. It presents the museum as a multi-layered system where physical, digital, and social dimensions develop together.
